Sorry, Handguns Are Inferior to Shoulder Mounted Arms, but You Can Change That with an MCK
3 min readThe title of this post speaks for itself. But you can do something about it, with a micro conversion kit, or MCK.
Here’s the deal.
Backing Up That Statement
First, let’s defend the opener here.
Handguns are compact and easy to conceal. This makes them good for defensive applications in close quarters.
That’s it. Literally. Shooting a handgun sucks by every other metric.
They’re hard to control, hard to aim, inherently inaccurate by objective comparison to rifles with longer barrels shooting spitzer bullets, and on top of that, recoil is a gigantic pain.
And to make it worse, handgun calibers are anemic, period. There are few that can stand up to rifle calibers in terms of power, accuracy, stability, and energy transfer.
Adding insult to injury, most handguns are also cumbersome and heavy.
But you can change all of that – with an MCK, also known as a micro conversion kit.
What Is an MCK (Micro Conversion Kit)?
In a nutshell, an MCK or a micro conversion kit is a chassis that is designed to convert your handgun into a carbine-style platform – hence the name.
Quality micro conversion kits, like CAA MCKs, do not require any modifications to the handgun. You basically just insert the handgun, lock it in place, and you can start shooting.
If you’ve never seen one, it looks a bit like a bullpup, even though it isn’t. It’s basically just a frame that accepts a pistol and makes it handle like a carbine.
In case you haven’t gotten the picture, they completely revolutionize handgun shooting – and yes, for the better.
How Does It Help?
If you convert your preferred pistol with an MCK, you lose one thing: concealability. But you gain everything else.
An MCK is configurable with a stock that makes it possible to shoulder and control the weapon. As a result, most shooters can vastly improve handling and accuracy, even at extended ranges – out to 200 yards and in some cases even further.
Because it is heavy, more stable, and shoulder-mounted, an MCK makes it possible for you to control muzzle flip, keeping your sights on target and enabling faster, more accurate follow-up shots.
On top of that, MCK platforms are naturally expandable, with rail sections and other mounting points all over them. There are also a ton of purpose-made MCK accessories that can improve the shooting experience.
Basically, you get to preserve all of the benefits of handguns except for one, while capitalizing on a bunch of them that handguns can’t offer.
And, on top of that, an MCK is still pretty compact, which is another big bonus.
I Want an MCK – Where Do I Get One?
If it sounds like an MCK can transform your shooting experience, that’s because it almost certainly can.
